Manfred Weber travels to Slovakia to listen and understand the difficulties local farmers are facing. "I stand with the farmers that told me of their fight against corruption and mafia practices. The EU must have a strong prosecutor with the power to intervene.", says Weber after joining a local farmer demonstration. "We must make sure that EU funds go to the people, so that the people are the ones to benefit!"
Weber visits the memorial of murdered journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová: "This assassination was an outrage! It is totally unacceptable that journalists are murdered for doing their job in the 21st century: a clear attack on freedom of the press."
Weber has visited the memorial twice already, he lits a candle to mark the first anniversary of their murder, to honour their memory. "We need information on the identity of those that ordered these killings. More progress is needed in this investigation. The people of Slovakia need Europe’s support against mafia practices.", Weber is stating.
We cannot let organised crime prevail in Slovakia, whether in agriculture or silencing freedom of expression!
